Our Staircase Services

A Complete Range of Stair and Banister Solutions for Massachusetts Homes

Whether your staircase needs a full new build, a cosmetic upgrade, or targeted structural repair, our carpenters have the skill and experience to handle every aspect of the job precisely and carefully.

New Staircase Construction

We design and build entirely new staircases from the ground up to suit your floor plan, ceiling height, and interior style. Straight runs, quarter-turn landings, and L-shaped configurations are all handled in-house by our stair specialists.

Banister and Railing Systems

We replace outdated or damaged banister systems with strong, beautifully crafted hardwood or mixed iron-and-wood railing configurations. Every component is precisely sized, cut, and secured so your railing is rock solid and visually sharp.

Hardwood Tread Overlays

We fit solid hardwood tread overlays directly over your existing stair structure for a dramatic visual upgrade at a fraction of the cost of a complete rebuild. A fast and affordable way to transform carpeted or worn stairs without major construction.

Newel Post Installation

We install solid wood newel posts in craftsman, colonial, contemporary, and tapered profiles that anchor your staircase and set the tone for your entire entry. Built to be structurally firm and visually commanding for the long term.

Baluster and Spindle Upgrades

Swap out dated or damaged balusters for square, turned, or wrought iron spindle designs. A quick and highly effective way to modernise the look of an older staircase without any major construction work or significant disruption to your home.

Squeak Repair and Structural Reinforcement

Squeaky or bouncy stairs are both frustrating and unsafe. We diagnose the root cause and apply the correct fix, whether that means re-blocking, regluing, renailing, or replacing individual treads and risers, usually without any visible changes.

The Impulse Standard

Three Things We Guarantee on Every Staircase We Touch

A staircase is used dozens of times every single day. We build and renovate to a standard that holds up structurally, looks exceptional, and stays that way for the entire life of your home.

No Squeaks. Ever.

Silent Underfoot From Day One Using Proven Joinery

Squeaky stairs are caused by loose connections between treads and the underlying structure. We use structural adhesive combined with correct fastening at every tread-to-riser connection so your staircase stays completely silent and solid from the very first step.

Code. Always.

Built to Massachusetts Residential Building Standards on Every Project

We build to code without exception. Correct tread depth, riser height, baluster spacing, handrail height, and structural load requirements are checked and verified on every staircase we work on so your home is safe and any future inspection passes without issue.

Perfect Match.

Wood Species and Stain Matched Precisely to Your Existing Interior

We bring wood samples to your consultation and work with you to match your existing floors, trim, and interior palette so your new staircase looks like it was always part of your home rather than a renovation that stands out for the wrong reason.

Got Questions

Stairs and Banisters FAQs

Can you overlay new treads over my existing stairs or do I need a full replacement?
In most cases a hardwood tread overlay is completely possible and is significantly more cost-effective than a full stair replacement. We inspect your existing stair structure during the free consultation and confirm whether it is solid enough to support an overlay. If the structure is sound we can often complete the full visual transformation in a single day without removing the original framework.
Red oak and white oak are the most popular choices for high-traffic staircases in New England homes. Both are extremely durable and take stain well. White oak has a slightly tighter grain and handles humidity changes a little better, making it a strong choice for homes near the coast. We bring samples to your consultation so you can see each option in your own home lighting before making any decision.
Massachusetts residential building code requires that balusters be spaced no more than 4 inches apart so a 4-inch sphere cannot pass through the opening. This is a child safety standard. We measure and install to this specification on every project and we can show you the exact spacing during your consultation before any work begins.
Yes in many cases. If the staircase is accessible from underneath we can re-block, re-glue, or renail the tread-to-riser connection without any visible changes to the surface at all. In cases where access is only from the top of the tread, we use countersunk screws and matching wood filler to fix and conceal the repair in a single step.
A full renovation covering treads, risers, balusters, handrail, and a new newel post typically takes between 3 and 5 days depending on staircase length and design complexity. Tread overlays alone are usually completed in 1 day. Structural squeak repairs take around half a day in most cases. We give you a specific written timeline before the project starts.
Yes. We regularly coordinate with painters, flooring finishers, and general contractors to keep the sequence of trades running smoothly on your project. We leave every site in a paint-ready and finishing-ready condition and can recommend trusted professionals in the Greater Boston area if you need them.
