Crown Moulding Installation

Professionally fitted crown moulding that transforms the junction between wall and ceiling into a polished architectural detail. The Impulse Standard

Three Reasons Our Shelving and Moulding Work Stands Apart From Every Other Contractor

Shelving and moulding are all about precision and proportion. A shelf that is not level or a crown moulding joint that does not close are visible every single day. We eliminate both entirely on every project we take on.

Every Shelf Is Level

Laser-Level Verified Installations on Every Single Shelf and Moulding Run

We use laser levels on every installation so every shelf is perfectly horizontal and every moulding run is perfectly parallel to the ceiling or floor it references. A shelf that appears to slope even slightly by eye looks wrong immediately. We do not allow that on any project we complete.

Tight Joints Every Time

Coped and Mitred Moulding Joints That Close Completely and Stay That Way

Moulding joints that open up after six months are caused by using only mitred cuts at inside corners. We cope inside corner joints on all crown moulding installations which allows the joint to remain tight through seasonal wood movement. The result is a moulding installation that holds its finish for years without cracking open at the corners.

The Right Profile

Moulding and Shelf Profiles Selected to Match and Complement Your Existing Interior

We bring a selection of profiles and hardwood samples to every consultation so you can see and compare them against your existing trim, flooring, and furniture in your own room lighting before anything is ordered or cut. Getting the profile right is what makes new work look like it was always there.

Got Questions

Custom Shelving and Moulding FAQs

What is the difference between built-in shelving and floating shelves and which is better for my home?
Built-in shelving refers to a full unit with sides, a base, a top, and back panel that is anchored to the wall and typically runs floor to ceiling. It provides the most storage capacity and the most architectural presence. Floating shelves are individual shelves mounted with concealed brackets and no surrounding frame, which gives a cleaner and more minimal look. The right choice depends on how much storage you need, your interior style, and your budget. We discuss both options during the free consultation and recommend the approach that best suits your space.
Yes. Profile matching is one of the most common requests we handle. We bring a selection of moulding samples to your home during the consultation so you can compare them in your own room lighting against the trim already installed. In cases where an exact profile is no longer in production, we can often find a very close match or create a custom profile to order. Profile continuity across rooms is something we take very seriously because inconsistent trim is immediately noticeable.
Our floating shelves are installed with heavy-duty concealed brackets anchored directly into wall studs. A standard shelf installation supports between 50 and 75 pounds per bracket depending on the bracket specification and stud spacing. For shelves intended to hold heavy books, equipment, or display items, we use additional brackets and confirm load capacity during the design stage. We never install floating shelves with drywall anchors only as these cannot provide reliable long-term load support.
A single room crown moulding installation typically takes between 2 and 4 hours. A full home installation covering multiple rooms and hallways usually takes 1 to 2 days depending on the number of rooms, ceiling height, and the complexity of the room shapes involved. Rooms with many inside and outside corners, bay windows, or non-standard angles take longer. We provide a specific timeline in your written quote before the project begins.
We deliver every shelving and moulding installation in fully paint-ready condition as standard. That means all nail holes are filled, all joints and gaps are caulked, and all surfaces are sanded smooth. Your painter can step straight in without any additional preparation. If you prefer a fully finished installation with your chosen paint colour applied before handover, that is also available and we discuss the option during the planning stage.
Yes. We regularly combine shelving and moulding work in a single project visit, which is more efficient and avoids two separate periods of disruption to your home. Many homeowners choose to have crown moulding and built-in shelving done together in a living room, study, or dining room renovation. We coordinate the sequencing so the moulding is always installed after the shelving units are in place and fitted.
